The Daily Express: A ProVen way to alleviate bowel problem
Scientists have long suspected that probiotics can help digestive health.
Following a trial at the University of Sheffield, they have identified a multi-strain probiotic that can help treat irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
In the trial involving 52 patients clinically diagnosed with IBS, half were given a high-strength multi-strain probiotic known as LAB4, commercially available under the name ProVen, while the other half took placebo.
After two weeks, 68 per cent of those taking ProVen reported improvement in the severity of their symptoms, a figure that rose to 92 per cent after eight weeks.
Lead researcher, Dr Elizabeth Williams, said “This trial is encouraging news for IBS sufferers.”
“We have demonstrated that the LAB4 multi-strain probiotic helps alleviate the symptoms associated with IBS.”
“Dairy-based probiotics are available, however some IBS sufferers report that dairy products aggrevate their symptoms.”
She added: “This trial has tested a probiotic formula that can be delivered in a capsule and may therefore provide an alternative.”
ProVen is exclusively available from VeryWise Nutrition.
